2 cups plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1 1/2 cups white sugar 1 teaspoon salt 3 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 cup Crisco or softened butter 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla 1 cup milk 2 eggs 1 cup dates cut fine 1/2 cup walnuts
Preheat oven to 350ºF. Spray pans and dust with flour or use wax paper in 2-8″ layer pans.
Sift together into mixing bowl flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder.
Add Crisco or butter, vanilla and milk. Beat for 2 minutes at medium speed. Add eggs and dates. Beat 2 minutes as before. Fold in walnuts.
Pour into pans. Bake 35 to 45 minutes. Cool and frost.
