Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs yolks only
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or lemon extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 1/2 cups flour divided

Decorations

  • Colored sugar
  • Nuts
  • Candied cherries

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • Cream butter and sugar thoroughly. Add well-beaten egg yolks and vanilla and almond extracts.
  • Mix in half the flour, then turn on a floured board and knead in the remaining half of the flour.
  • Roll out and cut with Christmas tree, star, snowman, etc. cookie cutters.
  • Place on greased baking sheet. and bake for 10 to 12 minutes (watch the cookies carefully).
  • Decorate with colored sugar, nuts and candied cherries.
  • Dough makes about 48 cookies, but can vary by type/size of cookie cutter and/or thickness of dough.
