English Muffin Cheese Loaf

1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/4 cup lukewarm water
1 pkg. or 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons cornmeal

In large bowl, dissolve sugar in water, sprinkle yeast over & let stand for 10 minutes.

In saucepan, scald milk & salt; let cool to lukewarm; add to dissolved yeast.

Add 1 cup flour, mustard, baking soda and cheese; mix until smooth. Stir in remaining flour.

Grease a loaf pan & sprinkle with cornmeal. Place dough in pan and sprinkle more cornmeal on top. Cover and let rise in warm place for about 45 minutes. Bake at 400°F for about 25 minutes
